Michail Gantwarg, born Mikhail Khanonovich Gantwarg on February 25, 1947, in Leningrad, Russian Federation, is a violinist and conductor. He made his solo debut performing Felix Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto with the orchestra of the Saint Petersburg Conservatory. Gantwarg studied under Mikhail Vaiman and received awards at competitions including the Premio Paganini in 1967 and the Russian National Competition in 1969. He served as concertmaster of the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic from 1972 to 1987. In 1987, Gantwarg founded the chamber music ensemble Leningrad Soloists (later renamed Saint Petersburg Soloists). He has recorded violin and piano concertos by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and works by Antonio Vivaldi. He served as a professor at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory starting in 1972 and held the position of rector from 2011 to 2015.
