Harold Farberman, born November 2, 1929, was an American conductor, percussionist, and composer. He studied at Juilliard School of Music and the New England Conservatory before joining the Boston Symphony Orchestra as a percussionist in 1951. Farberman later transitioned to conducting, leading the Oakland Symphony from 1971 to 1979. In 1972, he received a fellowship from the National Institute of Arts and Letters for his work on Charles Ives' music. He founded the American Conductors' Guild in 1975 and established a conducting school at West Virginia University in 1981. Farberman's notable compositions include Evolution (1954) and Greek Scene (1957). He passed away on November 24, 2018, at the age of 89.
