Zdeněk Košler was a Czech conductor born on March 25, 1928, in Prague. He sang in the Kühn Children's Choir and studied under Otakar Jeremias before attending the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague from 1947 to 1952. During World War II, he was imprisoned in the Theresienstadt concentration camp. His career accelerated after winning the Besançon competition in 1959 and the Mitropoulos Competition in 1963, which led him to assist Leonard Bernstein at the New York Philharmonic. Košler held significant posts at the Komische Oper Berlin and served as principal conductor of the Bratislava Opera from 1971 to 1976. From 1969 until his death, he maintained a close partnership with the Slovak Philharmonic. Košler died on July 2, 1995, in Prague. His discography includes the 2007 posthumous releases Strauss: Don Juan - Till l'espiègle - Ainsi parlait Zarathoustra and Dvořák: Danses slaves.
