The Delltones, an Australian rock and roll group, formed in 1958 as a doo-wop harmony quartet consisting of Warren Lucas, Brian Perkins, Noel Widerberg, and Ian "Peewee" Wilson. The group began performing at local clubs and talent quests, gaining their first professional engagement at a Kings Cross nightclub. In mid-1959, they performed in Lee Gordon's Big Shows and provided backing vocals for artists like Johnny O'Keefe. Their debut single "Gee" reached number 15 on the Sydney charts. After switching labels to CBS (Coronet), their breakthrough hit "You're the Limit" peaked at number 4 locally and entered the national top ten in January 1961. Following Widerberg's death in a car accident in July 1962, Col Loughnan joined the band. The group disbanded in 1973 but reformed in 1978 with new members, achieving a resurgence and releasing their top 20 compilation album Bop Til Ya Drop in 1983. A legal dispute involving longtime members Merv Dick and Rod “Woody” Finlayson in 2016 contributed to the end of the Delltones after nearly six decades. Despite ongoing speculation about a reunion or farewell tour, no such plans have been confirmed. The band’s music continued to receive attention, including the use of “Get a Little Dirt on Your Hands” in the 2018 television series Mr Inbetween.
