Machinations, an Australian synth-pop band, formed in 1980 in Sydney. The group released their debut single "Average Inadequacy" in 1981, followed by their self-titled EP later that year. Their debut album, Esteem, was released in April 1983 and featured the single "Pressure Sway", which peaked at number 21 on the Australian Kent Music Report singles chart. The band's second album, Big Music, reached number 20 on the albums chart in 1985 and included the top 30 hits "No Say in It" and "My Heart's On Fire". Their third studio album, Uptown, was released in October 1988 and included the single "Do to You", which reached number 15 on the charts. The band disbanded in 1989 following a car accident that injured lead vocalist Fred Loneragan.
