Ol' 55, an Australian band known for retro 1950s-era rock 'n' roll, formed as Fanis in Sutherland, Sydney, in 1972. In 1975, manager Glenn A. Baker renamed them Ol' 55 and recruited Frankie J. Holden as frontman. Their debut single, a double A-side with "Diana" backed with "Goodnight Sweetheart", was also released that year. In May 1976, their single "On the Prowl" (1976) reached the top 20 of the Kent Music Report, and their debut album Take It Greasy (1976) peaked at number 3 on the Australian albums chart, achieving triple platinum status. The band scored five top 20 hits, including "Looking for an Echo" (1976) and "Rockin' Christmas" (1976), and made regular appearances on ABC TV's pop music series, Countdown. After line-up changes and internal disagreements, Ol' 55 disbanded in 1983, though various revivals and reforms of the band have occurred throughout the years.
