Colin Joseph McGlinchey, known professionally as James Freud, was born on June 29, 1959, in Melbourne, Australia. He began his musical journey at a young age, forming his first band, Sabre, at 16 with high school friend Sean Kelly and drummer Ian McFarlane. In 1979, he formed James Freud & the Radio Stars, releasing their debut single "Modern Girl" in May 1980, which peaked at number 12 on the Australian Kent Music Report Singles Chart. In 1982, Freud joined Models as a bass guitarist and shared lead vocalist duties. His compositions "Barbados" (co-written with Andrew Duffield) and "Out of Mind, Out of Sight" reached number 2 and Number 1 on the Australian singles chart in 1985, respectively. After Models disbanded in 1988, Freud pursued a solo career, releasing Step into the Heat in 1989. Freud published two autobiographies, I Am the Voice Left from Drinking (2002) and I Am the Voice Left from Rehab (2007), detailing his career and struggles with addiction. On October 27, 2010, Models were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame. Freud was absent from the ceremony and he passed away on November 4, 2010.
