Jürgen Kerth (born July 19, 1948) is a German blues guitarist and singer from Erfurt. After training as a precision mechanic, he began his musical career in 1964 with the band Spotlights, which was later renamed Rampenlichter and banned by authorities in 1966. He formed the Rock & Blues Ensemble Kerth in 1967 and the Gruppe Jürgen Kerth in 1971 following his studies at the Musikschule Erfurt. His discography includes the albums Gruppe Jürgen Kerth (1978), Komm herein (1980), and Gloriosa (1982). In 1991, he released the compilation Rock aus Deutschland, Vol. 8: Jürgen Kerth. Kerth was awarded the Kulturpreis der Stadt Erfurt in 1999. His later releases include the album Ich liebe die Eine (2006) and the self-published Made for U.S.A.. In 2002, his song “Nachts unterwegs” was covered by the artist Clueso. Kerth is based in Erfurt and has been associated as an ambassador with Stiftung Kinderhospiz Mitteldeutschland.
