Born André Lajeunesse on April 15, 1935 in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue (Canada), he began his career singing in religious ceremonies at the age of 7. He scored his first hit in 1957 with the song "Prétends que tu es heureux", which was number one in Quebec for several months. In 1959, his song "Une promesse" brought him to Europe, thanks to Charles Aznavour's manager Jean-Louis Marquis, and to the United States, on variety shows on the ABC and NBC networks. From 1966 to 2000, he hosted a number of Quebec TV shows in parallel with his singing career. Other hits include "La Veillée chez l'père joe" (1976), "Pour boire, il faut vendre" (1976) and "Le P'tit cordonnier " (1987). After several years' absence, he released two compilations of his greatest hits: André Lejeune (2006) and 30 Grands Succès (2008). In 2013, he created two new albums: a Christmas album with his granddaughter, Pour Noël , and a New Year's Day album, Les Héritiers du Vieux Routier. Then in 2015, he remixed all his hits with a contemporary sound, with the album Mes Plus Grands Succès Revisités.
