Born in Drummondville (Canada) on February 1, 1925, and died in Drummondville (Canada) on April 13, 1999, Marcel Martel was a country-western singer of Quebec origin. From the age of 12, he took part in many amateur singers' evenings, playing fiddle, accordion and guitar with his father. He also sang songs by Roland Lebrun (Soldat Lebrun). As a teenager, he did his military service. On his return in 1944, he toured the radio stations of Quebec and began writing the words and music for his songs. In 1947, the success of his first 78 rpm, including the songs " La Chaîne de nos coeurs " and " Souvenir de mon enfance ", led to a series of shows in New England. His group Marcel Martel and its musicians are the stars of the weekly radio program L'Heure de Drummondville on Trois-Rivières station CHLN from 1947 to 1949. With his wife, Noëlla Therrien, and daughter Renée, he toured Quebec, Ontario and New Brunswick from 1951 to 1957. In 1952, he scored the biggest hit of his career with the song " Un Coin du ciel ". He had his own television show, Marcel Martel, on Sherbrooke's CHLT station from 1962 to 1965, and achieved the best ratings in the business. In the early 1980s, he co-hosted Les Grands noms du country with Lévis Bouliane. Suffering from emphysema, he reduced his activities and stopped recording new songs in 1988. He passed away on April 13, 1999.
