Born Jean-Yves Farago on June 15, 1944 in Quebec City (Canada) and died on July 31, 1997 in Quebec City (Canada), Johnny Farago was a Quebec pop singer. As a teenager, he got noticed in an impersonation contest, singing Elvis Presley hits. He joined the group Les Mercedes from 1964 to 1966, before embarking on his solo career. His first 45 rpm became a hit in Quebec with an Elvis Presley rendition of "Je t'aime, je te veux" , the French version of "I Want You, I Need You, I Love You ", and a Beatles cover of "Être naturel", the French version of "Act Naturally" . In 1968, he recorded one of his greatest songs, "J'ai ta photo de ma chambre" , and won the trophy for best record seller at the Festival du Disque. In the 70s, he went on to top the Quebec charts with "1-2-3 chante avec moi", "Prends cette lettre Maria" and "Trois p'tits coups ". Following the death of Elvis Presley in August 1977, Johnny Farago paid tribute to him the following month with a show at Place des Arts in Montreal. The show went on to tour Quebec (Canada) and the state of Maine (USA). In 1979, he made an album and toured with his brother Freddie Farago, devoted to the songs of the Everly Brothers duo. In 1982, he experimented with country music with his group Les Country 10, then opened La Vie en rose cabaret in Miami. In the 1990s, he performed in cabarets in Florida and Quebec. He died of a heart attack in July 1997.
