Michel Stax, born Léger Michaud on February 13, 1948 in Sainte-Trinité-des-Monts (Canada), is a Quebec pop singer. He joined a choir at the age of 13, where he was a soloist. In the mid-1960s, he performed in cabarets with the group Jay And The Sensations. In 1967, he formed the duo Jules et Jim with François Carel, and released the single " Son copain ", which met with little success. In 1969, he released his first single, " Caroline chérie ", a French-language adaptation of the Foundations' hit " Build Me Up Buttercup ", with which he scored a hit in Quebec. Another song, " Petrouchka ", followed the same year. At the end of 1969, he had to stop his professional career for a year due to tuberculosis. In 1973, he scored two hits on the Quebec radio charts with " Oh ma Lili ", which stayed at #1 for 5 weeks, and a cover of Édith Piaf's hit " Milord ". He had to put his career on hold again during the year, when a serious car accident left him in a coma. He returned to the top of the charts with " Notre amour n'est plus qu'une habitude " in 1974, followed by " Fais une croix sur le passé " in 1975 and " Aucun cœur " in 1976. He suffered another serious accident in July 1976, and his career continued without recapturing the previous successes. In 1985, he launched the song " Je suis un gigolo ", a French adaptation of David Lee Roth's " Just a Gigolo ", which momentarily brought him back to the Quebec charts.
