Tony Roman, real name Antonio D' Ambrosio, is a singer and producer born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on August 1, 1942. He made his dance-hall debut in 1959 with his group Tony and the Tip Tops. He recorded a few albums before achieving huge success in 1964 -1965 with the song " Doo Wah Diddy Diddy ". During an 18-month stay in the United States in 1965-1966, he met Nanette Workman and persuaded her to come and try her luck in Quebec. They recorded a number of duets together, including " Hey Joe ". In 1965, he founded his own record company, Canusa, featuring popular stars such as Johnny Farago and Patrick Zabé. He produced " C'est fou mais c'est tout " by Les Baronets, a group that included René Angelil, future impresario and husband of Céline Dion. Tony Roman ended his singing career in 1976 to devote himself to cinema. He died of cancer on June 8, 2007 at the age of 64.
