Ruby Andrews, born Ruby M. Stackhouse on March 12, 1947, in Hollandale, Mississippi, was an American soul singer who began her musical journey during her high school years at Hyde Park Academy High School in Chicago. She started singing with the group The Vondells and released her debut single under the name Ruby Stackhouse for Kelmac Records.
Ruby Andrews' breakthrough came in 1967 with "Casonova (Your Playing Days Are Over)", which reached number 9 on the R&B charts and number 51 on the Pop charts. This crossover hit was co-written by Joshie Jo Armstead and produced by Mike Terry in Detroit. Subsequent releases included "You Made a Believer (Out of Me)" (1969), which peaked at number 18 on the R&B charts, and "Everybody Saw You" (1970). Her work with Zodiac Records was produced by Fred Bridges, Robert Eaton, and Richard Knight. Ruby Andrews later recorded for Ichiban Records, collaborating with Swamp Dogg. Notable albums include Everybody Saw You (1970), Black Ruby (1972), and Genuine Ruby (1977). In 2009, she released the greatest hits compilation Casanova.
