Barbara Lynn Cumby, who goes by Barbara Lynn, is an American soul, R&B and blues singer-songwriter and guitarist who topped Billboard's Hot R&B Songs Chart in 1962 with her single 'You'll Lose a Good Thing'. She played music as a child and performed in regional venues in Texas before landing a recording contract. Her albums include 'You'll Lose a Good Thing' (1963), 'Sister of Soul' (1964) and 'Here Is Barbara Lynn' (1968), and she toured with artists including James Brown, Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Gladys Knight and B.B. King.
Her 1963 single 'You're Gonna Need Me' went to number 13 on Billboard's Hot R&B Songs Chart and 'Oh! Baby (We Got a Good Thing Goin')' (1964) reached number 19. In 1968, she took an extensive break from the music business returning 20 years later with the 1988 release 'You Don't Have to Go' followed by 'Until Then I'll Suffer' (1996), 'Hot Night Tonight' (2000) and 'Blues & Soul Situation' (2004). Her 2019 schedule included appearances at venues in Austin, Texas; Anaheim and San Jose, California; and New Orleans, Lousiana.
