Linda Jones, born on December 14, 1944, in Newark, New Jersey, is an American singer known for her soulful voice with a strong gospel influence. She began singing at six as part of her family's gospel group, the Jones Singers. Her first recording, "Lonely Teardrops", was released under the name Linda Lane on Cub Records in 1963. Producer George Kerr introduced her to Loma Records, where she achieved her breakthrough with "Hypnotized" in 1967. This ballad reached number 4 on the Billboard R&B chart and number 21 on the Hot 100. Following this success, Jones released two more hits before Loma closed in late 1968. She then moved to Neptune Records and later signed with Turbo Records in New Jersey. Her rendition of "For Your Precious Love" reached both the R&B and pop charts in 1972. Shortly after completing a national tour supporting her album Your Precious Love, Jones died on March 14, 1972, at the age of 27 while resting between shows at New York City's Apollo Theater. Posthumously, All Platinum released three albums featuring previously issued and unreleased material. In 2008, her daughter Terry Jones produced Soul Talkin, which included a Grammy-nominated track "Baby I Know". The Grammy Museum in Newark added artifacts of Jones to their New Jersey Legends Exhibit in 2021.
