The Koobas was an English beat group from Liverpool, formed in 1962. The band consisted of Roy Montrose, Stu Leathwood, Roy Morris, Peter Williams, John Morris, and Kenny Cochran. Keith Ellis and Tony O’Reilly joined the group in 1964. That year, the band signed with Pye Records and opened for The Beatles. In 1965, the group recorded footage for the film Ferry Cross the Mersey, which was cut from the final release. The group moved to EMI Columbia in 1966. Its recordings included “Sally” (1967) and “The First Cut Is the Deepest” (1968). The group became inactive in September 1968, prior to the 1969 release of the album Koobas. Following the separation, Ellis performed with Van der Graaf Generator and O’Reilly joined Yes. Ellis died in 1978 and Leathwood died in 2004. The Koobas became inactive in 1968.
