British rock band The Renegades, originated in Birmingham, England. The group was formed in 1960 and initially consisted of Kim Brown on vocals, lead guitar, and keyboards; Denys "Denny" Gibson on guitar; Ian Mallet on bass; and Graham Johnson on drums. Their early breakthrough came with the track "Hungarian Mod", a reworking of Franz Liszt’s "Hungarian Rhapsody" in a mod style, featured on 1964’s Brum Beat, a compilation album promoting local Birmingham bands. The Renegades gained significant popularity in Finland after a tour in Helsinki in October 1964. Their energetic stage performances and distinctive outfits, styled after American Civil War-era Cavalry uniforms, contributed to their success. The band's single "Cadillac" reached number 2 on the Finnish charts in 1964. They also appeared in the Finnish film Topralli in 1966 and toured extensively across Europe, including Germany, France, Switzerland, Sweden, and Italy. In Italy, they recorded several singles, most sung in Italian, such as "L’amore é Blu", which reached the Italian top 20. The group disbanded in 1971, with Kim Brown and Mick Webley going on to form Kim & The Cadillacs. Notable posthumous releases include The Renegades Revisited, featuring Graham Johnson playing concerts in Helsinki with Pekka Tiilikainen & Beatmakers in 2019 and 2021.
