Jacques Lancelot, born on April 24, 1920 in Rouen, France, was a French clarinetist. He began his musical studies at the conservatory of Caen with Fernand Blachet and later at the Paris Conservatory under Auguste Périer, earning the first prize in 1939. Lancelot's career included significant roles as a soloist with the Concerts Lamoureux and the orchestra of the Republican Guard, and from 1945 to 1965, he was a member of the French Wind Quintet alongside Jean-Pierre Rampal and Pierre Pierlot. His notable recordings include Concerto pour flute & harpe / Concerto pour clarinette (1964) and Concertos pour clarinette, hautbois et basson (1987). Lancelot was also a distinguished pedagogue, teaching at the Lyon National Conservatory of Music and the Nice International Academy. His influence extended globally, particularly in Japan, where he conducted masterclasses and influenced clarinet pedagogy significantly. He died on February 7, 2009.
