Tony MacMahon was born on April 18, 1939, in Ennis, Ireland, and was an Irish button accordion player and broadcaster. Inspired by accordionist Joe Cooley, a frequent visitor to his home from 1949 until 1954, MacMahon built a notable musical career. He released his debut album Traditional Irish Accordion in 1972. In 1985, he collaborated with Noel Hill on the album I gCnoc na Graí. His later works included Aislingí Ceoil (1993) and Scaoil Amach an Pocaide - Live in Spiddal (2014). MacMahon enjoyed a long career with RTÉ, hosting traditional-music TV programs and producing radio shows, before he retired in 1998. He died on October 8, 2021.
