Noel Hill, born in 1958 in Caherea, West County Clare, Ireland, is an Irish concertina player. Influenced by his uncle Padraig A Chnoic and local musicians like Willie Clancy, Hill started playing the concertina at nine. His professional career began in the late 1970s with Tony Linnane, forming the group Inchiquin. Their album Inchiquin was released in 1976. Hill's most celebrated work, Noel Hill & Tony Linnane, came out in 1979. The Pogues wrote "Planxty Noel Hill" in response to his criticism of their band during a radio interview; the tune appeared on their 1986 Poguetry in Motion EP. In 2008, Hill suffered major injuries during an assault that impacted his ability to perform. His solo albums include The Irish Concertina (1982), which was voted Irish Folk Album of the Year in 1988.
