Jean-Paul Brodbeck, born in 1974 in Basel, Switzerland, is a Swiss jazz pianist. He began playing piano at age ten and received formal training from 1985 to 1989 before studying jazz under Hans Feigenwinter. In 1991, Brodbeck enrolled at the Konservatorium Basel, where he studied under Peter Efler and earned a teaching diploma in 1995. At age twelve, he formed his first band, and by fifteen, he performed with Lionel Hampton. Throughout his career, he collaborated with various artists including Herbie Mann, David Liebman, and Billy Hart. His discography includes notable albums such as Ways to You (2002) with the Jean-Paul Brodbeck Trio, Lyrical Output (2003), and Ground (2005). He explored diverse genres like rap, klezmer, and jazz rock, and became a faculty member at the Musikhochschule Luzern. Other notable releases include the albums None but the Lonely Heart (2007) and Hang on Hippie (2009).
