Wahkonda, a German rock band from Frankfurt (Oder), was founded in 1972 by Hans Georg "Hansi" Alt. The band gained significant traction in the late 1980s within the DDR. In 1977, singer Ralf Engel joined, and by the mid-1980s, they began producing their own compositions broadcast on DDR radio. Notable songs like "Ein Hauch von Zärtlichkeit" and "Ich brauch Dich" achieved high rankings in DDR television shows. Their first single, "Rock 'n' Roller", was released in 1986. In the autumn of 1984, they won the Stop! Rock competition with the song "Wolln wir zu mir gehen". The band's debut album, Millionen Emotionen, was released in 1989. After the fall of the DDR, Wahkonda disbanded in the early 2000s but reunited in 2008 for a series of concerts and the release of their greatest hits compilation, Die größten Hits. Frontman Ralf Engel passed away on October 5, 2011.
