Stefan Diestelmann, born on January 29, 1949 in Munich, Germany, was a singer, guitarist, lyricist, and producer. He moved to East Germany with his family in 1961 and received his first guitar at age 12. In 1975, he joined Axel Stammberger's band Vai Hu before forming his own group, Stefan Diestelmann Folk Blues Band, in May 1977. Their debut album Stefan Diestelmann Folk Blues Band was released by Amiga in 1978. Despite facing censorship for his politically charged lyrics, Diestelmann continued to release albums such as Hofmusik (1980) and Folk Blues & Boogie (1984). In 1984, he defected to West Germany after a concert in Hildesheim. His later works include Mylights (1994) and Folk Blues Best (1996). Diestelmann passed away on March 27, 2007 in Tutzing, Germany.
