Mecki Mark Men, a Swedish progressive rock group fronted by keyboardist Claes "Mecki" Bodemark, originated in Sweden. The band initially formed as a dansband in the mid-1960s under the name Mecki Mark Five before evolving into a psychedelic rock act. Their breakthrough came with a performance at Stockholm's Experimental Jazz Festival in July 1967. In September of that year, they released their first single "Midnight Land" b/w "Got Together", followed by their debut album Mecki Mark Men. The group toured extensively, including performances with Jimi Hendrix and Frank Zappa. Notable collaborations include the musical Hår, the Swedish version of Hair, which ran from September 1968 through April 1969. Mecki Mark Men were among the first Swedish rock acts to tour and release records in the U.S., contributing significantly to the development of Swedish psychedelic rock and its progg subgenre.
