Mariusz Kwiecień, born on November 4, 1972 in Krakow, Poland, was a baritone known for his leading roles in major opera houses across Europe and North America. He began his professional career as Aeneas in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas at the Kraków Opera in 1993 after studying at the Warsaw Academy of Music. Kwiecień made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in 1999, performing leading baritone roles such as Marcello in La bohème. His notable performances include the title role in Mozart's Don Giovanni, for which he won the Seattle Opera’s Artist of the Year award for the 2006–07 season. Kwiecień received several awards, including a Grammy Award nomination in 2017 for his performance in Szymanowski: Król Roger. He retired from singing in September 2020 due to recurrent back problems.
