Matthew Polenzani is an American opera singer born on August 23, 1968, in Evanston. After completing a training program in Chicago, he relocated to New York in 1997. Polenzani made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera that year as Khrushchov in Boris Godounov. He performed roles in various languages, including the priest in The Magic Flute and the messenger in Samson et Dalila. In 2002, he performed as Count Almaviva in The Barber of Seville. His repertoire included Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni and Tamino in The Magic Flute. Polenzani appeared as the title characters in Idomeneo (2017) and Don Carlos (2022). He recorded the albums Song by Schubert, Beethoven, Britten and Hahn and Lieder & Liebeslieder Waltzes.
