Vera Kaa, born Vera Kaeslin on March 27, 1960, in Luzern, Switzerland, is a Swiss singer who began performing as a child by singing songs for guests at her grandmother's pension. Her early career included stints in the jazz-rock band Pnö and the hard-rock band B.M. Smith. Kaa's first solo album, Das macht dich frisch, was released in 1981 and won the Phonoakademie-Preis in Germany. Her subsequent albums include Different Ways (1991) and Rien ne va plus (1991). In Rien ne va plus, she expressed her engagement with women's issues, which earned her the Swiss Trade Union Prize in 1991. Kaa explored various genres, going more towards jazz and blues on the album Tango (1992). Her album In-Team won her the Prix Walo in 1997 in the Singer/Songwriter category. In 2004, she released the album Wotschmi.
