Oktoberklub was an East German political music group from Berlin that was active between 1966 and 1990. The ensemble was originally known as the Hootenanny-Klub Berlin and emerged from a wave of folk and protest music inspired by the American folk revival. They were initially supported by the local district leadership of the Free German Youth and performed under the guidance of the Canadian folk singer Perry Friedman. In 1967, the ensemble renamed itself to associate with the Russian Revolution of October. The group is famous for its political themes and for the track “Sag mir, wo du stehst” (1967). Their discography includes the studio recordings Der Oktoberklub singt (1967), Unterm Arm die Gitarre (1968), and Politkirmes (1978). In 1986, the ensemble received the Gold Star of People's Friendship. They returned for occasional performances in 2002 and 2007.
