Daniel Alberto Viglietti Indart, born on July 24, 1939 in Montevideo, Uruguay, was a singer and guitarist. He began studying guitar with maestros Atilio Rapat and Abel Carlevaro and shifted his focus to popular music in the 1960s, releasing his first album Canciones folklóricas y 6 impresiones para canto y guitarra in 1963. His subsequent works, including Hombres de nuestra tierra (1964) and Canciones para el hombre nuevo (1968), blended classical and folk elements with socially conscious lyrics. In 1972, Viglietti was imprisoned due to his political activism; notable figures advocated for his release. He went into exile in Argentina and France, returning to Uruguay in 1984. Notable collaborations included A dos voces with Mario Benedetti (1985). His work was recognized internationally, with his songs covered by artists such as Mercedes Sosa and Joan Manuel Serrat. Viglietti passed away on October 30, 2017.
