Bernd Spier was born on April 6, 1944 in Ludwigslust, Mecklenburg (Germany). He is a German pop singer and producer who is considered one of the most successful German-language performers of the 1960s. Bernd Spier was already making music in a band with friends in his youth and was discovered through appearances on radio programs, which led to his first recording contract with CBS in 1963. His musical focus is on pop and light light music, often with German versions of international hits. His second single was already an unexpected success: "Das kannst du mir nicht verbieten" reached number 1 in the German charts in 1963/64 and is considered a milestone in his career. Further successful releases followed, including "Schöne Mädchen muss man lieben" (1964) and the cover version "Memphis Tennessee" (1964), which also remained in the charts. In 1965, Bernd Spier achieved another top ranking in Germany with "Das war mein schönster Tanz". In the following years, he released further singles such as "Einmal geht der Vorhang zu" and "Meine Träume von der Liebe" (1965), which emphasized his style between melodic pop and pop. During the beat and rock wave of the mid-1960s, many traditional pop stars lost popularity and Bernd Spier's chart presence also declined. In 1969, he achieved a minor comeback success with "Pretty Belinda". He later also worked as a producer. He died on December 30, 2017 in East Frisia.
