Suzie was born Martina Carina Peereboom on August 21, 1946 in Tilburg, the Netherlands. She is a Dutch-Swedish singer and artist who is considered one of the most distinctive voices of German-language pop and pop music in the 1960s. Even as a child, she performed as an artist in the circus and spoke several languages fluently. In 1963, Suzie received her first recording contract in Sweden, where she began her singing career. In 1964, she released the song "Johnny komm'",the German version of her English title "Johnny Loves Me", and achieved her first major success in Germany. This was followed by other singles that reached high positions in the German charts, including "Du, du, du gehst vorbei", "Max und Moritz", "Ich war allein" and "Ich will immer nur dich", which regularly appeared in the sales charts between 1964 and 1966. "Du, du, du gehst vorbei" is particularly successful, remaining in the German charts for months. In 1965, Suzie was part of the Dutch team of performers that won the Knokke Song Festival, and she switched from the Vogue label to the Ariola label in 1967. Suzie's music is mainly pop and light entertainment music, stylistically influenced by international pop trends of the early 1960s. She also recorded in Swedish, Dutch, English, French and Danish and was considered a versatile singer of her time. She retired from show business in 1969 to devote herself to her family, but continued to record in Sweden until 1972. Suzie died on March 3, 2008 in Nordmaling, Sweden.
