Michelangelo Carbonara is an Italian classical pianist born on January 1, 1979, in Salerno. He graduated from the Académie nationale Sainte-Cécile at age 17 and continued his training at the Mozarteum and the Académie Musicale de Villecroze. In 2001, Carbonara was admitted to the Fondation internationale de piano «Theo Lieven» and the Académie internationale de piano du Lac-Côme under the direction of Martha Argerich. He studied with Leon Fleisher, Dmitri Bachkirov, Claude Frank, and Alicia de Larrocha. Carbonara received 17 prizes in international competitions, including the International Schubert Piano Competition. He made his debut at Carnegie Hall in 2007 and performed in Europe, America, Asia, and Africa. His discography featured the studio recordings Ravel: L'Œuvre pour piano (2008), Rota: L'Œuvre pour piano (2008), Scarlatti: 42 Sonatas (2010), and Schubert: Piano Sonatas (2011). Carbonara also worked as a conductor, composer, and recording director.
