Norman Quentin Cook, known professionally as Fatboy Slim, was born on July 31, 1963, in Bromley, Kent, England. He began his music career as a bassist for the indie rock band The Housemartins, achieving a UK number-one single with their cover of "Caravan of Love" in 1986. After the band's split in 1988, Cook moved to Brighton and pursued dance music, forming the electronic group Beats International, which produced the number-one single "Dub Be Good to Me" in 1990. He also released house records under various names, including Pizzaman and the Mighty Dub Katz.Cook's debut album as Fatboy Slim, Better Living Through Chemistry, was released in 1996. His second album, You've Come a Long Way, Baby (1998), was certified platinum and featured successful singles such as "The Rockafeller Skank", "Praise You" and "Right Here, Right Now". The follow-up album, Halfway Between the Gutter and the Stars, produced the single "Weapon of Choice", which won six awards at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards. In 2004, Cook released Palookaville. He later collaborated with David Byrne on the concept album Here Lies Love (2010), which was adapted into a stage musical in 2013. Throughout his career, Cook has received numerous accolades, including a Grammy Award, nine MTV Video Music Awards, two Brit Awards and an Ivor Novello Award. In 2024, he was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Original Score for Here Lies Love.
