Günter Hapke, born on October 10, 1931, in Neukieritzsch, Germany, was a singer known for his contributions to jazz, pop music, and world music. He began playing the violin at age eight and later learned the trumpet and piano. In 1950, Hapke joined Gerhard Stein's dance orchestra, Melodie Dance Orchestra, where he played bass and became the lead singer. His breakthrough came in 1960 with the release of his first single "Was für ein Tag" after recording sessions at Amiga Studio. Throughout the 1960s, Hapke released several EPs, including Ich Singe Im Mondschein in 1960 and Badewannen-Tango in 1962, as well as covers of "Hello Mary Lou" in 1961 and "Badewannentango" in 1962. After retiring from the music industry post-1990, Hapke lived with his wife Ruth until his death on January 30, 2021, in Schleusingen, Germany.
