Alexandru Bertzi, known professionally as Ducu Bertzi, was born on September 21, 1955, in Sighetu Marmației, Romania. He began his musical journey studying the violin for eight years before forming the rock band Mi bemol rock with friends during high school. In 1973, Bertzi won the Grand Prize at the first poetry and folk music festival in Sighet. This marked a significant breakthrough, leading to his involvement with the folk stage of Cenaclul Flacăra in 1976 and his first radio recording in 1979 for the song "Cînd s-o-mpărțit norocu". His notable songs include "Și de-ar fi...", "Floare de colț", and "M-am îndrăgostit numai de ea". Bertzi's music often incorporates poetry from lesser-known writers, blending folk traditions with contemporary themes. He performed extensively, with over 3,200 concerts by 1996.
