Lando Bartolini, born on April 11, 1937, in Casale di Prato, Italy, was an operatic tenor known for a powerful spinto voice. He won the Mario Lanza competition in 1968 and subsequently studied with Nikos Moschonas at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia. Bartolini made a stage debut as Luigi in Puccini's Il tabarro at Opera Philadelphia that same year. An international breakthrough came in 1973 when he performed Osaka in Mascagni's Iris at the Liceu in Barcelona. He joined the New York City Opera from 1976 to 1979 and performed extensively across Europe and America, including roles such as Radames in Verdi's Aida. Bartolini died on June 27, 2024.
