Andrew Hogg, known as Smokey Hogg, was born on January 27, 1914, near Westconnie, Texas. A guitarist and singer, he learned to play from his father, Frank Hogg. In his teens, Hogg teamed up with slide guitarist B.K. Turner, playing at various venues around East Texas. In 1937, Decca Records released Hogg's first single "Family Trouble Blues" backed with "Kind Hearted Blues". By the early 1940s, Hogg was busking in Dallas and later signed with Bluebonnet Records in 1947, which leased his masters to Modern Records. His notable releases include "Long Tall Mama" (1948), and "Little School Girl" (1950), the latter reaching Number 5 on the Billboard Retail R&B chart. Hogg continued recording until the late 1950s. He died in McKinney, Texas, on May 1, 1960.
