Cecil Gant was born on April 4, 1913 in Columbia, Tennessee, was an American blues singer-songwriter and pianist. He began his music career in Nashville, Tennessee, in the mid-1930s. In 1944, after performing at a War Bond rally in Los Angeles, he recorded "I Wonder" for the Bronze record label, which was later re-released on Gilt-Edge and reached Number 1 on the Billboard Harlem Hit Parade. His follow-up records, including "The Grass is Getting Greener" (1945) and "I'm Tired" (1945), also charted on R&B charts. He also released notable tracks for King Records in 1947 and Bullet Records until 1949. In 1950, he recorded "We're Gonna Rock". Gant died on February 4, 1951 in Nashville while preparing for an engagement in Clarksdale, Mississippi.
