Pleasant Joseph, known professionally as Cousin Joe, and born on December 20, 1907, in Wallace, Louisiana, is a blues and jazz singer. He began his musical journey as a pianist and singer, initially learning to play the ukulele and guitar before focusing on piano. In 1945, Cousin Joe participated in the notable "King Jazz" recordings with the Mezzrow/Bechet septet and continued to record on various labels including Philo, Savoy, Signature, Gotham, and Decca. His career included performances at local clubs and cabarets alongside prominent figures like Lee Allen and Dave Bartholomew's orchestra. Notable albums include Bad Luck Blues (1973) and Joseph from New Orleans (1975). Cousin Joe passed away on October 2, 1989.
