By the Tree was a Christian rock group founded in Weatherford, Texas, U.S., in 1997 by Chuck Dennie and Bala Boyd. They began performing at small venues and released two self-produced albums, Passion for Jesus (1999) and Shoot Me Down (1999). These early releases sold over 30,000 units combined, attracting industry attention. In 2001, they signed with Fervent Records and released their first national album, Invade My Soul (2001), which won two Dove Awards. By the Tree achieved a Number 1 hit single in 2004 with "Beautiful One", topping the Billboard Hot Christian Songs chart for four weeks. Their subsequent albums under Fervent Records included These Days (2002), Root (2003), Hold You High (2004), and World On Fire (2006). In 2007, they released their compilation album, Beautiful One: The Best of By the Tree (2007), before disbanding later that year.
