Benny Ray Hester, born in 1948 in Waco, Texas, is an American musician. He began studying classical music at age four and was a founding member of the Texas pop rock band The Morticians. Hester moved to Las Vegas in 1969 where he met recording engineer Brent Maher, who produced his first album Benny.... His breakthrough came with the singles "Jesus Came Into My Life" and "Be A Receiver". The title track from his third album, "Nobody Knows Me Like You", reached Number 1 on Christian Music Charts in 1981. Hester's song "When God Ran" is one of the longest-running Number 1 songs in Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) history, spending 13 weeks at Number 1. He produced the teen sketch comedy and dance television series Roundhouse and received a television Cable Ace Award for the song "I Can Dream".
