Ruthann Friedman, born July 6, 1944 in Bronx, New York, is an American folk singer-songwriter and guitarist. She began playing guitar at age eight, influenced by artists like Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger. After moving to Southern California, she started performing at local venues. In 1967, her song "Windy" became a hit when recorded by The Association. Her debut solo album, Constant Companion, was released by Reprise Records in 1969. Friedman stopped recording music from 1972 to 1973 after a family tragedy. In 2006, her album Constant Companion was reissued by Water, renewing interest in her work and leading to subsequent performances.
