Belgian flutist Jan De Winne was born on July 24, 1962, in Bruges. He studied music at the conservatories of Bruges and Ghent, specializing in baroque flute under Barthold Kuijken at the Conservatoire de Bruxelles. In 1987, he won the international competition Musica Antiqua in Bruges. De Winne collaborated with ensembles such as Il Fondamento, Wiener Akademie, and Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra. He co-founded the ensemble Il Gardellino in 1988 with oboist Marcel Ponseele. He became a teacher at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris.
