Federico Maria Sardelli, born on August 15, 1963, in Livorno, Italy, is a conductor and historicist-composer. He founded the medieval ensemble Modo Antiquo in 1984, which later became a baroque orchestra. In 1987, Modo Antiquo debuted with Jean-Baptiste Lully's Ballet des Saisons. Sardelli has been the main conductor of the Accademia Barocca di S. Cecilia and guest conductor for various orchestras, including the Orchestra Filarmonica di Torino and Gewandhaus Leipzig. He has recorded over forty albums as a soloist and conductor, published by labels such as Naïve and Deutsche Grammophon. Sardelli is notable for his work on Vivaldi compositions, performing and recording many world premieres like Arsilda, regina di Ponto and L'Atenaide. He was nominated twice for the Grammy Award in 1997 and 2000 and received the Gonfalone d'Argento (Silver Banner) from the Government of Tuscany in 2009.
