L'Orfeo Barockorchester, an Austrian ensemble specializing in Baroque and classical music, was founded in 1996 by violinist and conductor Michi Gaigg and flutist Carin van Heerden. The group is known for its historically informed performances using period instruments or their replicas. Initially consisting of 15 to 17 musicians, the ensemble expanded to 25 members over time. Its discography includes recordings of works by composers such as Leopold Mozart and Christoph Willibald Gluck, as well as lesser-known figures including Johann Caspar Ferdinand Fischer, Benedikt Anton Aufschnaiter, Ignaz Holzbauer, Georg Christoph Wagenseil, and Anton Fils. The ensemble has received critical acclaim for its recordings, including the Echo Klassik award and positive reviews in leading classical music publications.
