Il Gardellino, a Belgian ensemble specializing in classical music, was founded in 1988 by oboist Marcel Ponseele and flutist Jan De Winne. The group took its name from Antonio Vivaldi's concerto "Il Gardellino" (op. 10 n° 3). Il Gardellino began their career with a focus on baroque music, collaborating with other formations such as Cappella Amsterdam and the Gesualdo Consort. The group's recordings include Eichner : Flute Quartets op. 4, Bach Solo Cantantas, and Bach & Graupner : De Profundis. Their recordings have been released on labels such as Accent, Klara, Eufoda, Signum, and Passacaille. Regular musicians have included violinists Ryo Terakado, François Fernandez, Sophie Gent, Mayumi Hirasaki, and Joanna Huszcza; Israeli harpsichordist Shalev Ad-El; gambist Vittorio Ghielmi; and cellists Michel Boulanger and Hervé Douchy.
