Madalena Lucília Iglésias do Vale, known professionally as Madalena Iglésias, was born on October 24, 1939, in Lisbon, Portugal. She began her career at age 15, joining the Centro de Preparação de Artistas da Rádio de la Rádio e Televisão de Portugal and making her radio and television debut in 1954. Her international career began in 1959 with an appearance on Televisión Española. In 1966, she represented Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest with "Ele e Ela", placing thirteenth out of eighteen countries. After marrying Fernando Oliveira in 1972, she moved to Venezuela and later relocated to Barcelona, where she died on January 16, 2018.
