Francis Chapelet is a French organist born on March 3, 1934, in Paris. He studied at the École César-Franck and the Conservatoire de Paris, receiving first prizes in harmony and improvisation in 1961. Chapelet was appointed co-titular organist at the church of Saint-Séverin in 1964 and served until 1984. He established the organ class at the Bordeaux Conservatory and remained in charge until 1996. Chapelet performed as a specialist in Spanish organ music and led the Académie internationale d'orgue ibérique de Castille. His discography featured the collection Orgues historiques and the recording L'Orgue Contemporain à Notre-Dame de Paris. He received the titles of Chevalier de l'Ordre National du Mérite and Officier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. He authored the book L'Œuvre pour orgue in 2013.
