Erik Van Nevel is a Belgian conductor and singer born in 1956. He is the nephew of conductor Paul Van Nevel. He completed musical studies at the Lemmensinstituut in Leuven and the Royal Conservatories of Brussels and Antwerp. Van Nevel served as the assistant conductor of the Belgian Radio Choir from 1980 to 1985. He was the choirmaster of Brussels Cathedral between 1983 and 2000, where he established the ensemble Cappella Sancti Michaelis. Van Nevel founded the Currende choir, the chamber ensemble Currende Consort, and the Baroque orchestra Concerto Currende. He also directed the wind ensemble Concerto Palatino. His recordings focused on Flemish Renaissance repertoire, including a 10-CD collection of Flemish polyphony produced for Davidsfonds. In 1994, the Flemish Community named Van Nevel and Currende Cultural Ambassadors of Flanders. He directed the research project Sound of the Cathedral at the University of Leuven.
